Cecilio Castillero’s practice focuses on banking and finance, mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures. He has extensive experience representing leading financial institutions with a deep understanding of the market’s practices and standards, and clients’ internal policies. His broad expertise includes setting up a variety of structures, including syndicated and bilateral, secured and unsecured, and domestic and cross-border financings. Mr. Castillero also has outstanding deal management and organizational skills, and extensive experience in coordinating multijurisdictional matters involving numerous parties and legal counsels.

Representative transactions include the extension by Panamanian Government of the maturity date of US$220 million in CPPs relating to Road Reorganization Projects, the US$80 million syndicated loan led by Bladex for Banco Aliado, the US$71 million project financing for Phase I of the first windmill generation farm in Panama, the simultaneous acquisition and project financing for Phase II of the first windmill generation farm in Panama, the US$13 million Darby Overseas’ minority investment in Bioerix Group, the project financing of Melones Oil Terminal by Global Bank, the acquisition of Grupo Industrias Lácteas by The Coca-Cola Company (USA) and Coca-Cola FEMSA (Mexico), the acquisition of Mi Bus by the Panamanian government, and the preparation and negotiation of trust agreements for the divestiture by their OFAC-listed owners of Félix B. Maduro and the Soho Mall

Mr. Castillero has been ranked as a Band 3 lawyer for Banking & Finance in Panama by top legal directory Chambers Global; as a Latin American Corporate Counsel Association (LACCA) Approved banking private practitioner (2012-2016); as a leading financial and corporate lawyer, Panama, IFLR1000 (2012-2016); and as a leading attorney in Panama in the fields of banking (2012-2015) and project financing (2014-2017) by The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers.
